Cocoa Pod Counting Prediction System
Production estimation with applied machine learning.
Overview
This system applies machine learning and computer vision to cocoa pod counting and production estimation—an agricultural measurement problem where manual counts are slow and difficult to standardise.
The Challenge
Cocoa production estimates depend on counts that are labour-intensive and inconsistent. Without a more repeatable method, planning and operational conversations rest on delayed or uneven field measurement.
The Approach
The problem was framed as an estimation system, not a model demo. Computer vision and predictive analytics were applied to the counting task with the agricultural workflow in mind: what needs to be counted, how the estimate will be used, and where human review still belongs.
The Solution
An applied machine-learning approach supports pod counting and production estimation. Computer vision provides the measurement layer; predictive analytics supports estimation beyond a single count event.

Impact / Outcomes
The work demonstrates how machine learning can be applied to a concrete agricultural measurement problem rather than as a generic AI overlay.
Lessons
Applied ML earns its place when it improves a specific operational measurement. The constraint is the field process, not the model catalogue.
